André Sornay

André Sornay (1902 - 2000)

Trained at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon, André Sornay is recognized as a major designer of Art Deco.

At the end of the First World War, at barely 17 years old, he took over the family furniture business in Lyon. He imprinted his style there, turning resolutely to more modernism.

Member of the Union of Modern Artists (UAM), alongside Charlotte Perriand or Robert Mallet Stevens, he created innovative furniture: patented assembly techniques (studding, "tigette"), but above all functional furniture, with simple and geometric lines, playing with color to emphasize their balance.
