Jacques Pouchain (1925 - 2015)
Born in 1925, Jacques Pouchain studied architecture, but quickly turned to his real passion, painting.
He moved to Dieulefit in the late 1940s and became a master ceramicist. His objects are like a continuity of his paintings, the two artistic approaches evolving in parallel and responding to each other. On his utilitarian or decorative ceramics, he uses a subtle play of colors, made of white, gray and ocher shades enamels, often revealing an engraved decor. Bestiaries, women, vases, Jacques Pouchain makes art ceramic truly alive, exploring themes around abstraction, femininity or fertility.
From the 1980s, he abandoned utility ceramics in favor of his art and simultaneously exhibited painting and ceramic sculptures. He has been exhibited in many museums and galleries in France (Vallauris, Museum of Modern Art Paris) and internationally (Switzerland, Germany ...)
