Designer
- Robert Mathieu
Robert Mathieu stands out as one of the foremost French lighting designers from the 1950s. Trained at the prestigious Boulle School, he initially pursued a career in watchmaking before embarking on luminaire design in 1949. His meticulous craftsmanship and clean lines garnered him a distinguished private clientele, including some of the most prestigious hotels.
Venturing beyond lighting, Mathieu occasionally explored the creation of coffee tables. Infusing a playful spirit with perforated metal, a technique evident in some of his aluminum reflectors, he consistently demonstrated a sharp attention to detail.
This rare coffee table features a black lacquered tubular structure that ingeniously incorporates a vibrant yellow perforated metal magazine rack. The table showcases a trapezoidal glass top, cast on sand and elegantly secured by brass cabochons. A true testament to Mathieu's design finesse, this piece captures the essence of his limited yet impactful production.
