"Terzo" Table, Mario Botta, first version with granite top, circa 1983

Designed by architect Mario Botta for Alias in the early 1980s, the "Terzo" table epitomizes the fusion of architecture and furniture. This rare early version features a top made of three light-grey granite slabs resting on a black lacquered tubular steel frame. A distinctive detail of this configuration is the slightly recessed top, exposing the structural joints and metal braces that give rhythm to the composition.

The balance between tension and stability reflects Botta's vision of furniture as small-scale architecture. The raw texture of granite contrasts with the precision of the metal frame, conveying the monumental rigor of Italian postmodern design.
