Designer
Designed in 1936 by Hungarian architect and designer Marcel Breuer for the London-based company Isokon, the B.T.3 table was originally created for the restaurant inside the Isokon building, known as the Isobar.
Made of molded birch plywood and walnut, it stands out for its remarkable lightness, structural strength, and intelligent construction. The rectangular top features two long edges bent at right angles, providing both optimal rigidity and a smooth, comfortable edge. The T-shaped legs are formed by two bent elements joined at an angle, creating a reinforcing fin running the full height of the base.
This design, fully conceived for serial production, reflects Breuer's modernist approach to laminated wood, a technique he discovered in London through his collaboration with Isokon.
