Gianfranco Frattini (1926 - 2004)

Gianfranco Frattini was born in Padua in 1926 and graduated from the Polytechnic School of Milan, Architecture section in 1953. He started working in Gio Ponti's office, and then joined Cassina in 1954.

Founding member of ADI, Association for Industrial Design, in which he held several positions, he opened his own studio with Franco Bettonica in 1956. Very quickly, he collaborated with the biggest publishing houses Bernini, Knoll, Artemide, or Fantoni. He designed many pieces of furniture, some of which are still extraordinarily successful today. The Boalum (1969) lamp he created with Livio Castiglioni is certainly one of his most famous pieces.

Gianfranco Frattini is also renowned for his mastery of wood. His projects have been awarded numerous prizes, including the prestigious Compasso d'Oro.
