Achille Castiglioni

Achille Castiglioni (1918 - 2002)
Born in Milan in 1918, Achille Castilgioni was the son of a renowned sculptor and painter and grew up in a bourgeois family. A graduate in architecture, he joined the studio created by his brothers and then decided to devote himself to his own projects. In the 1950s, he sought functionality and simplicity, without forgetting a touch of humor. His creations show a combination of standard industrial materials assembled with everyday objects, such as the Sella stool, a tribute to the Giro riders.
He was often rewarded, f.i. for his Luminator lamp by the Compasso d'Oro in 1955. In the 1960s, he focused more heavily on lighting and collaborated with Flos where he produced his most iconic creations: the Snoopy, the Parentesi ... He also signed numerous collaborations with Zanotta and Alessi.
