LES PUCES DU DESIGN

Formes Utiles heads towards Switzerland for a few days on the occasion of the Design flea market in Lausanne. Come and meet us from May 10 to 12 at the Palais de Beaulieu. At our booth, discover iconic pieces of Mid century modern design and art.

Do you know the history of the iconic Womb Chair, this comfortable and elegant armchair? Its author, Eero Saarineen, went to study architecture in America. He met Charles Eames and Florence Knoll there, meetings that would mark his life. Indeed Knoll kept the exclusivity of the editions of his design pieces his all life. The Womb Chair is the first result of the collaboration between Saarineen, Eames and Knoll. It was designed in 1940 at the request of Florence Knoll, who asked for « a chair that was like a basket full of pillows ». This armchair was first edited in 1948. It was one of the first armchairs produced in series, resolutely modern for its time! We present here a first edition, entirely restored in royal blue.
