Early Edition of Teiza Isu Lounge Chair by Sakakura & Cho, Tendo Mokko circa 1970

REF: 7075

"Teiza Isu" Lounge Chair, designed in 1960 to represent Japan at the Milan Triennale. This refined piece is often attributed to Daisaku Choh, a member of Junzo Sakakura's agency, a key figure in Japanese modernism. Inspired by Sakakura's Bamboo Chair, it reflects the seamless fusion of tradition and modernity that defines postwar Japanese design.

Crafted from elegantly curved teak plywood, the Teiza chair features a generous seat and a tall, gently angled backrest, both upholstered for comfort. Its distinctive sled-like base ensures stability while distributing weight evenly, a thoughtful design choice that preserves delicate tatami flooring. More elevated than its bamboo predecessor, it offers versatility, fitting effortlessly into both traditional Japanese interiors and contemporary Western spaces.

Both functional and sculptural, the Teiza Isu embodies the essence of Japanese design-where simplicity, craftsmanship, and innovation converge to create timeless elegance.

The old Tendo Mokko label attests to this early edition.
