Shiro KURAMATA (1934 - 1991)
Shiro Kuramata (1934-1991) was a Japanese designer known for his innovative furniture and interior designs. After studying architecture and design in Tokyo, he opened his own design office in 1965. He became famous in the 1970s with pieces like the "Side 1" and "Side 2" chests, later reissued by Cappellini. He also designed interiors for Issey Miyake in Paris, New York, and Tokyo. His iconic works include the "Miss Blanche" chair (1988) and the "How High the Moon" chair (1986). His designs are part of collections at MoMA in New York and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. His work continues to influence contemporary design.
