Ingo Maurer (1932 - 2019)

Ingo Maurer (born, 1932) is a German designer, born in Munich, known for his lighting designs since the 1960s.
Maurer starts with an apprenticeship as a typesetter, later studies graphic design and moves to the US to make a living as a graphic designer. His career as a lighting designer starts after he returns to Germany in 1963 as he founds Design M, that later becomes Ingo Maurer GmbH.
He is the inventor of the "the Bulb" exhibited at the MoMA (1969) and low-voltage wire system YayaHo, (1984).
Several exhibitions have celebrated his designs: the MoMA, Foundation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain, Villa Medici, Centre Pompidou of Paris, among others.
