Douglas Swan

Douglas Swan (1930 - 2000)

The American artist Douglas Litterick Swan, born in 1930 in New Britain, relocated to Scotland at the age of six. Following artistic studies in Dundee and London, he secured a scholarship from the British Council to pursue further studies in Italy, ultimately settling in Milan. Enthralled by the Italian art scene, Swan delved into the works of luminaries such as Lucio Fontana and Enrico Castellani. In the 1960s, having established himself in Switzerland, his reputation soared, earning him a place among the preeminent painters of the 20th century. Based in Bonn since 1967, Swan received artistic grants and exhibited globally before his passing in 2000. In 2002, the Bochum Museum received a substantial donation of his artworks.
