Atelier Madoura

Madoura is a French pottery studio started by Suzanne Ramié (1905-1974) in 1938. The name Madoura is an acronym made by the first syllables of Douly and Ramié, the maiden and the married name of Suzanne Ramié.

After graduating from Les Beaux Arts in Lyon, she worked as a textile designer and then moved to Provence to start Atelier Madoura and soon became one of the most influential ceramicists of the 20th century. Picasso is the most famous who resided there (1946) but Matisse and Chagall have also been part of the Atelier Madoura history.
