Pol Chambost

Pol Chambost (1906 - 1983)

Born in 1906 from a family of artists, Pol Chambost initially trained in sculpture. A graduate of Applied Arts, but self-taught in ceramics, he chose the earth as a means of expression in the 1930s. After the war he settled his workshop in Ivry, in the Paris region and became a major player in the defense of ceramic art in France, and organizes in particular the 1st Salon of Ceramics in 1949. His work evolves from the utilitarian to more sophisticated forms, being inspired by leaves, shells, sensual lines driven by his eternal desire to join the useful and the beautiful.
