Mado Jolain

Mado Jolain (1921 - 2019)

After she graduated from les Arts Décoratifs, Mado Jolain was drawn to the art of the moment: ceramics. Active from 1946 to 1970, her work was mainly centered on homeware and was exposed at several trade shows and exhibitions, starting in 1948 with the Salon des Ateliers d'Art Décoratif.
As a member of the Ceramists Union and Ateliers de France, she met with the leading ceramists of the time: Blin, Capron, les Argonautes, Chambost...
From a work dedicated to the utility at the end of the war, she oriented towards more architectural pieces, influenced by the works of Le Corbusier, Jean Prouvé and Alvar Alto. Her art is remarkable for the work of textures, simple and strict forms and her mastery of thick and shiny enamels which give her pieces a great modernity.
